    Product Description:
Titanium(IV) 2-ethylhexoxide is an organotitanium compound with the formula Ti(OCH₂CH(C₂H₅)C₄H₉)₄. It is a colorless to pale yellow liquid, sensitive to moisture and air, and typically handled under inert atmospheres. It is a member of the metal alkoxide family, specifically a titanium alkoxide derived from 2-ethylhexanol. Its primary and most significant application is as a precursor for the sol-gel synthesis of titanium dioxide (TiO₂) thin films and nanoparticles. These materials are crucial in coatings for their photocatalytic, self-cleaning, anti-reflective, and high-refractive-index properties. It is extensively used to prepare functional coatings on glass, metals, and ceramics. Additionally, it serves as a cross-linking agent and catalyst in polymerization reactions, particularly for polyesters and polyurethanes, enhancing thermal stability and mechanical properties. As a metal alkoxide, it also functions as a catalyst in organic synthesis, including esterification and transesterification reactions. Due to its moisture sensitivity, it requires careful storage and handling. Its role is foundational in advanced material science for developing optical, protective, and catalytic surfaces.
