    Product Description:
Magnesium aluminum carbonate hydroxide hydrate, commonly known as hydrotalcite or hydrotalcite-like compound, is a layered double hydroxide (LDH) with the general formula [Mg6Al2(OH)16]CO3·4H2O. It belongs to the class of anionic clays, characterized by a brucite-like layered structure where magnesium and aluminum cations are octahedrally coordinated by hydroxyl groups, with carbonate anions and water molecules located in the interlayer galleries. Its primary industrial application is as an acid scavenger, stabilizer, and halogen scavenger in polymer processing, particularly for polyolefins like polypropylene and polyethylene. It effectively neutralizes acidic catalyst residues and traps corrosive hydrogen chloride generated during the thermal degradation of halogen-containing polymers, thereby preventing equipment corrosion and polymer degradation. Additionally, it finds significant use in water treatment as an adsorbent for removing anions such as phosphate, arsenate, and chromate from wastewater due to its high anion exchange capacity and large surface area. Other notable applications include its use as a catalyst or catalyst support in organic synthesis, a flame retardant and smoke suppressant additive in polymers, and an antacid in pharmaceuticals. Its non-toxic nature, thermal stability, and tunable chemical composition make it a versatile functional material across chemical, environmental, and materials science industries.
