    Product Description:
Chloramine-T is the sodium salt of N-chloro-p-toluenesulfonamide, commonly represented by the formula C7H7ClNNaO2S·xH2O. It is a white or slightly yellow crystalline powder that is soluble in water, producing a solution with a characteristic chlorine odor. Its primary and most significant industrial application is as a disinfectant, biocide, and sanitizing agent, particularly in water treatment. It acts as a stable source of active chlorine, releasing hypochlorous acid in aqueous solutions, which provides a prolonged and milder disinfecting action compared to free chlorine. This makes it valuable for disinfecting drinking water, swimming pools, and in various industrial water systems to control microbial growth, including bacteria, viruses, and algae. Beyond water treatment, Chloramine-T serves as a versatile oxidizing and chlorinating reagent in organic synthesis. It is used for the selective oxidation of alcohols to carbonyl compounds, chlorination of alkenes and alkynes, and as a source of electrophilic chlorine in various reactions. It is also employed as a topical antiseptic in some medical and veterinary applications.
