    Product Description:
Cuprous oxide (Cu₂O) is an inorganic compound with a cubic crystal structure, appearing as a reddish-brown powder. It is a p-type semiconductor with a direct band gap of approximately 2.17 eV, which makes it highly attractive for various advanced material applications. Its primary applications are in the fields of materials science and energy. In photovoltaics, Cu₂O is investigated as a low-cost, non-toxic absorber layer for solar cells. It also serves as a precursor for synthesizing copper-based nanomaterials and functional composites. In catalysis, it is used as a photocatalyst for water splitting and degradation of organic pollutants under visible light. Additionally, it finds use as an antifouling pigment in marine paints and historically as a fungicide in agriculture. The material is sensitive to oxidation and can degrade to cupric oxide (CuO) under certain conditions. Handling requires standard safety precautions for metal oxides, including avoiding inhalation of dust and contact with strong acids, which may produce toxic fumes.
