    Perfluorodecalin is a fully saturated, perfluorinated cyclic alkane with the molecular formula C₁₀F₁₈. It is a clear, colorless, odorless liquid characterized by its high density, chemical inertness, and exceptional stability. Its structure consists of two fused perfluorinated cyclohexane rings, resulting in a molecule with very low surface energy. Its primary industrial applications stem from its unique combination of hydrophobicity, oleophobicity, and chemical resistance. It is widely used as a key ingredient in formulating high-performance, durable water- and oil-repellent coatings for textiles, paper, and leather. Furthermore, it serves as a highly effective polymer processing aid and additive, improving the surface properties and release characteristics of fluoropolymers and other high-performance plastics during manufacturing. Beyond surface treatments, perfluorodecalin finds specialized uses due to its high gas solubility, particularly for oxygen. This property has led to its investigation and application in biomedical contexts as a blood substitute or oxygen carrier component (often referred to as a perfluorocarbon emulsion), and as a contrast agent in ultrasound imaging. It is also utilized as an inert heat-transfer fluid and a solvent in specialized chemical reactions.
