    Product Description:
4,4'-Difluorodiphenyl sulfone is a white to off-white crystalline solid with the molecular formula C12H8F2O2S. It is a key monomer in the synthesis of high-performance engineering thermoplastics, most notably polysulfones (PSU) and polyethersulfones (PES). The compound features two reactive fluorine atoms on the aromatic rings, which are highly susceptible to nucleophilic aromatic substitution reactions. Its primary and most significant industrial application is as a monomer for the production of poly(arylene ether sulfone)s via step-growth polymerization with bisphenol monomers (e.g., bisphenol A or S). The resulting polymers possess excellent thermal stability, high mechanical strength, good chemical resistance, and transparency, making them valuable for membranes (ultrafiltration, gas separation), medical devices, aerospace components, and electronics. Beyond its role as a polymer precursor, 4,4'-difluorodiphenyl sulfone serves as a versatile organic synthetic building block in the preparation of other sulfone-containing compounds, pharmaceuticals, and agrochemical intermediates. It requires careful handling as it may cause skin and eye irritation.
