    Product Description:
L-Hydroxyproline is a non-essential, cyclic imino acid. It is a major component of collagen, the most abundant protein in the human body, where it plays a critical structural role by stabilizing the collagen triple helix through hydrogen bonding. This unique post-translationally modified amino acid is not directly incorporated into proteins during ribosomal synthesis but is formed by the hydroxylation of proline residues in collagen precursors. Its primary applications are deeply rooted in the pharmaceutical and biomedical fields. It serves as a key raw material or intermediate in the synthesis of various drugs, including certain antibiotics and anti-inflammatory agents. Furthermore, due to its role in collagen synthesis and stability, it is widely used in cell culture media, particularly for cultivating connective tissue cells. In recent years, it has gained attention as a functional excipient or active ingredient in nutraceuticals, cosmetics (for skin health and anti-aging formulations), and medical products aimed at supporting joint and skin health. As a chiral building block, L-hydroxyproline is also valuable in asymmetric synthesis and peptide chemistry. It is generally considered safe for its intended uses, with established specifications in pharmacopoeias for its pharmaceutical-grade material.
