    Product Description:
D-Allylglycine is a non-proteinogenic amino acid derivative, specifically the D-enantiomer of allylglycine. Its chemical structure features a glycine backbone with an allyl group substituted on the alpha carbon. It is a structural analog of the inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). This compound is primarily known as a potent and irreversible inhibitor of the enzyme glutamate decarboxylase (GAD), which is responsible for the synthesis of GABA from glutamate. By inhibiting GAD, D-allylglycine depletes neuronal GABA levels. Consequently, it is extensively used in neuroscience and pharmacological research as a chemical tool to induce experimental models of epilepsy and seizures in animals for studying GABAergic neurotransmission, anticonvulsant drugs, and seizure mechanisms. D-Allylglycine serves as a specialized chiral building block in organic synthesis for the preparation of more complex molecules, particularly those incorporating unnatural amino acid motifs. Handling requires caution as it is biologically active and affects the central nervous system.
