    Product Description:
Aluminum iodide (AlI3) is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula AlI3. It exists as a white to pale yellow solid that is highly hygroscopic and reacts violently with water, releasing hydrogen iodide (HI). It is typically handled under inert atmosphere or anhydrous conditions due to its sensitivity. Its primary application is as a potent Lewis acid catalyst and halogenation reagent in organic synthesis. It is particularly effective in promoting Friedel-Crafts alkylation and acylation reactions, as well as in the cleavage of ethers and the isomerization of alkenes. It serves as a source of iodide ions and can be used for iodination reactions. Aluminum iodide is also a precursor for the synthesis of other aluminum compounds and organoaluminum reagents. Due to its high reactivity and moisture sensitivity, it requires careful handling and storage in sealed containers under an inert atmosphere.
