It is widely used to synthesize a variety of phosphine ligands, such as bis(diphenylphosphino)methane (dppm) and 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane (dppe), which are fundamental in transition metal catalysis for cross-coupling reactions (e.g., Suzuki, Heck), hydrogenation, and hydroformylation.
