    Product Description:
Rotenone is a naturally occurring isoflavone compound extracted primarily from the roots of plants belonging to the *Derris*, *Lonchocarpus*, and *Tephrosia* genera. It is a crystalline solid with the molecular formula C₂₃H₂₂O₆ and is known for its high lipophilicity. Its primary and most significant application is as a broad-spectrum insecticide and piscicide (fish toxicant). Rotenone acts as a potent mitochondrial complex I inhibitor, disrupting cellular respiration and ATP production, leading to rapid paralysis and death in target organisms. Historically and in some current niche applications, it has been used in organic farming, aquaculture management (to remove unwanted fish species), and household pest control. Due to its high toxicity to fish and potential ecological impact, its use is heavily regulated or banned in many countries. It is also a valuable tool in neuroscience research for inducing Parkinson's disease models in laboratory animals by selectively destroying dopaminergic neurons.
