    Product Description:
2,5-Dichloro-4,6-dimethylnicotinonitrile is a chlorinated pyridine derivative. It is a key chemical intermediate in the synthesis of modern agricultural fungicides, most notably the strobilurin class. Its structure serves as a core building block for compounds that mimic the natural fungicidal activity of strobilurin A. The primary and most significant application of this compound is in the production of advanced fungicides such as azoxystrobin, one of the world's most widely used broad-spectrum agricultural fungicides. These fungicides act by inhibiting mitochondrial respiration in fungi, specifically by binding to the Qo site of cytochrome bc1 complex, thereby disrupting energy production and leading to fungal cell death. It is a critical precursor in the manufacturing process of these high-value crop protection agents. As a functionalized pyridine with multiple reactive sites (chloro and cyano groups), it is also a valuable synthetic building block in organic chemistry for constructing more complex heterocyclic systems beyond its primary agrochemical use.
